بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
A team of aspiring doctors studying at Guy’s & St Thomas’s Medical School (King’s College London) have teamed up with Human Aid UK to help build an orphanage and school in Gambia. They hope to raise enough funds so that they can build a school with modern classrooms, providing lessons to teach the general curriculum in addition to Hifz and Islamic Sciences; and an orphanage with the necessary amenities to house 90 orphans, including the regular provision of meals, clothes and adequate healthcare.
During the team’s recent expedition to Gambia early this September 2015, they spent their time giving public health workshops to the community leaders on disease, substance abuse and trained them in Basic Life Support. They sourced contractors and materials in order to initiate the construction of the orphanage and school, whilst working to improve the schools current managerial system. They also provided the students with basic school equipment and had a fun day with the children gifting them with toys.
Here are some photos to showcase some of what they did:

Lastly, as said by our beloved Prophet (SAW) the best house is a house in which orphans are treated well:
Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “The best house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are well treated. The worst house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are ill treated. I and the guardian of the orphan will be in the Garden like that,” indicating his two fingers. [Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 137, Book 7, Hadith 137]
May Allah swt accept all of our acts of charity, āmeen.
