Salaam my wonderfuls!
If you’d like to just get to the main bit of my post, please go to the 4rth paragraph. Secondly I’d like to say that, man, writing can be so difficult! I didn’t feel this way when I wrote my previous posts, but that’s because of the fact that, I wrote when I actually felt like I didn’t have a set time to do things! But now that I’ve decided to take up blogging, I feel as though I need to write things pretty regularly.
Well I’m gonna fast today inshAllah, and so I’m staying up. Yes, unfortunately, my plan to discipline myself has NOT being going well at all this week, it just keeps failing, because of the fact that my body clock is accustomed to waking up late and therefore sleeping till very late, so I ask of you to please give me some advice on this! Ahah. Also, right now I don’t actually see much of a point to ‘fix’ it now, as Ramadan is in less than a week so I wont be getting any sleep till after fajr anyways, and that year 13 doesn’t start until about 7 weeks.
Another thing, I’d like to point out that it’s been 6 months since my best friends’ funeral. SubhanAllah, her voice, her face, her smile, the style in which she’d call my name (ahah, loved it, it was unique to us), it’s all still so clear in my head! Mannn, half a year already, and her death can seem so surreal at times… for she once upon a time existed as a living person, and now she exists in this world in whichever form inside of our memories. We really have to think about when we’ll run out of time… I just hope that for when our time comes, we can return to our creator in inshAllah a pure state, please make loads of sincere dua that our fates do end in such a way. Just as my best friends soul did inshAllah. Ameen~
Now then, moving on to tonights’ topic. Music. No, I will not condemn you for it. I want you to hear me out on how it is I view it. Music is something that’s very widespread, it’s definitely something that’s deeply rooted and it is centred of in many cultures. It is absolutely a very powerful tool in getting people to move to its tunes, I don’t mean it just literally, even in the emotional sense, it invokes many feelings within us, and we feel that it provides us with some sort of salvation to our worldly problems. And that’s the scary bit.
Many a time we fall back to the works of particular artists, in hopes of feeling better. These artists/ bands may be The Fray, Adele, Linkin Park, Bruno Mars, Tu Pac, Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, (I’ve mentioned those that I’m familiar with, Lowkey and others may fit with these guys, but I’m not very familiar with other works), and what I’ve noticed with these artists, they may speak of the problems that go on in the world, their inner feelings, and describe their emotions in such an eloquent and simple manner, that we feel as though by listening to these, we’re letting out our feelings and emotions. I wish to clarify my point by using examples.
Never mind, I’ll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don’t forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
“Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead, “
Adele- Some One Like You.
There’s a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch, it’s bringing me out the dark
Finally I can see you crystal clear
Go ‘head and sell me out and I’ll lay your shit bare
See how I leave with every piece of you
Don’t underestimate the things that I will do
Adele- Rolling in the deep.
Now what are these songs about? It’s to do with Adele’s lover, who cheated on her, the poor woman dedicated an entire album to this deceitful man, in an attempt to share with the world her feelings. She talks about loving this guy, then she threatens this guy, then speaks of the hope she has in this guy, and then speaks of the pain and frustration she feels from his deceit, what a confused woman she is! And to think we listen to these types of things, in hopes of feeling better? And is that what really happens, do we really and truly feel better?
Let me tell you what happens. The emotions she’ll go in to depth with, they’ll be invoked in you. So if she talks about her love, you’ll probably feel like crying, and if she talks about her hope, you’ll probably feel like you should do the same. Yeah, some emotions have been let out, and I do think that’s important, but because these emotions are actually brought out in the way of the words of the artists, it’s let out in an unhealthy way. And I say unhealthy because it doesn’t actually serve the purpose of helping you to find a solid solution to your problem. How many times have you listened to things over and over, felt good after a moment of letting out these feelings, and then catapulted to feeling crappy again? And then you go back to listening to these songs for the same purpose you originally had done before? If you’re being boomeranged to your original state, well maybe that’s telling you that these songs; that have prettily arranged words and verses, sung by these amazing voices, with musical instruments to assist the words sung by these amazing artists; isn’t actually helping you to get through your problems, rather it deludes you to think that it’s being solved, because of the momentary contentment it brings, after you let out these emotions of yours?
I said earlier that it is scary. Yes. Because people do actually look to these singers for contentment in their lives. People who have emotions to such a degree that if someone you knew, gave you a dirty look out of nowhere, it could potentially mess up how you feel for the rest of the day, let alone how people feel when graver things happen, such as a loved one stabbing you in the back. Imagine how hurt and messed up a person can become as a result of such things, and lone behold these people will rely on something whereby they’ll be stuck in a cycle, where they’ll momentarily feel better after listening to some songs for a while, to then feeling depressed again and so on. That’s just depressing especially because of the content of these songs, the effect that it has in the short-term may be worth while to you, but in the long run, the depression will simply add up, and therefore it’ll do you more harm than good. Know that no enlightenment comes as a result of this, and what we humans need is exactly that. A solid source of enlightenment to help us get through our day-to-day problems, for the rest of our lives.
Anyways, this is Apple, sharing her thoughts for the night!
Salaam, and sweet dreams inshAllah!
Feel free to let me know what you think.
